Main Program: “Debunking Common Myths about Beekeeping”

The internet is an increasingly popular way to learn about beekeeping, ask questions, and share one’s experiences. Reading about beekeeping on Facebook and other internet sites, as well as watching youtube videos can be entertaining, but all too often the information there is downright wrong. Errors, myths, and even lies have proliferated in recent years as more and more beekeepers have given in to the temptation to turn to the internet to share their “wisdom,” which is often based on little real experience. At this month’s meeting, Will and Monica will debunk some common myths about beekeeping, such as

  • Beekeepers are bad for bees

  • Using metallic spoons in honey is dangerous

  • Feeding sugar syrup to colonies causes honey to crystalize

  • There is always only one queen per hive

  • A beekeeper can always keep hives from swarming

Please join us and bring your own question or myths to share.

Other items on the agenda

  • State of the hive

What is going on in the beeyard this month

  • Raffle of beekeeping tools for those attending in person
